RSS!

Google Reader is awesome - I used to use Bloglines, and Google Reader is way better.

Let me recommend a local blog that I discovered after I wrote the RSS entry: Mastically Shirleycious http://trihamletpress.blogspot.com/ It's entertaining, and filled with local gossip.

SuffolkWave

I don't use SuffolkWave as often as I should. I listen to podcasts or music; I don't really like audiobooks. Now that my son is getting older, we will probably try to download some children's movies - as soon as I can get him to watch something other than Elmo...

Very happy that iPod is supported now; but I still wish it wasn't so confusing to download stuff.

Kind of Cheating

I have had a Flickr account for several years now, it's one of the primary things I do on the internet. Almost everyone I'm close to has an account, and we use it as a communication tool.

This is a picture of my son's artwork. Flickr is a great way to share stuff like this with extended family and friends.

YouTube

I know a lot of people watch a LOT of YouTube, and a friend of mine spends most of his free time making silly videos (not NSFW at all, but too silly for me to post here). I just use it to see videos that I haven't seen before (because MTV doesn't show videos anymore) and to catch different memes

The video embedded below is one of my favorite internet memes - it just cracks me up every time!

Library Thing

We created a LibraryThing for the Teen Department a little while ago - should probably update it more often! http://www.librarything.com/home/MMSCLTeens

I love the idea of folksonomies, but I get frustrated by alternate spellings/plural vs. singular - I always worry that I missed a good tag. Of course, taxonomies have their own issues, as evidenced by #amazonfail this weekend! Power to the people - I do love seeing what labels swim to the surface, and what doesn't catch on.

Delicious

I like Delicious a lot - it's great to be able to access my bookmarks from anywhere! I use the Delicious app on my iPhone as well, which is really handy, especially for recipes when I'm in the grocery story and don't remember what goes into what I make.

I'd never used the option to see other users, so that was neat.

A great online shopping tip: search everyone's bookmarks for "shopping" or "valentine" or "jewelry" or whatever you're searching for - seeing what's popular and interesting out there can be handy when you're stuck for ideas.

Facebook and MySpace

I think the subtitle of Facebook should be, "whoa, I totally forgot about that person!" Since signing up a couple of years ago, I have been contacted by all sorts of people from my past. Sometimes that's good, and sometimes not so much...

The library Facebook page has a good mix of options - I love the search bar. Maybe we should add the ENCORE search bar as well? (Right now, the Library has 105 fans!)

MySpace is still the social media tool of choice among the teens in our library, so we decided to have a MySpace page. I think it's important to have a virtual outpost where our teens are. They won't think that we're cool or anything, but it might make it easier to communicate with them. It's a little more attractive than it used to be, but I wish it was easier to really customize it. Maybe that will be a project later on.
